Ivy was born in Langley Prairie, BC and grew up in Vancouver. After completing Normal School she moved to Kersley to teach. There she met and married Hugh Gook and together they operated Cariboo Dry Bottling (Coca-Cola) in Quesnel and then in Prince George. Ivy returned to teaching in 1960, teaching at Vanway, Peden Hill, and Austin Road before retiring from Harwin Elementary in 1986. Ivy struggled with Alzheimer's but with support was able to stay in her own home until recently. She was predeceased by her daughter, Shirley Anne, in 1956 and her husband, Hugh, in 1980. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her children: Bill (Wendy) of Cranbrook, Marjorie (Blair) of Vancouver, and Steve (Frances) of Prince George; by her grandchildren: Melanie, Kathleen, Andrea, Gillian, Jennifer, and Charlie; and by her great-grandchildren, Kaden and Kennedy, who always made her smile! Ivy's family would like to thank Dr. Bruce Wilson, the UHNBC Family Medicine staff, and the staff of the Prince George Hospice House for the compassionate care they provided for our dear Mom. A private memorial will be held at a later date. If anyone so wishes a donation can be made, on Ivy's behalf, to the North Cariboo SPCA (4011 Lansdowne Road, Prince George).
