Hiroe Wood was born on November 1st, 1951 in Makasa, Japan and passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, February 3rd, 2013 at Vancouver General Hospital. Hiroe is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Ralph, her two sons, Jeff (Ana) and Keith (Lisa), her five grandchildren: Hudson, Rowan, Finn, Reese, and Hawke, her brothers Toshiaki and Motoaki, and her cousin Kazayuki. Hiroe was a strong and independent woman who left her native country at 21 years of age to educate herself in the English language. While living in Victoria, BC, she met and fell in love with Ralph. Shortly after they moved to Smithers, BC, where Jeff was born in 1977, and then moved to Prince George where Keith was born in 1981. She was a devoted and loving mother. Hiroe began teaching Japanese at PGSS and then went to UNBC in 1994 to instruct. She was loved by many colleagues and students within the teaching and learning community. Hiroe loved to be active; she played volleyball as a young lady, and was an avid tennis player. She had recently taken up cross-country skiing. Throughout her life she was part of many adventures with family and friends; including: canoeing the Bowron Lake chains, biking through the Kootenays, hiking Mt. Robson, and many camping trips within BC and Alberta. She also enjoyed sewing and cooking for her loved ones. She will be deeply missed and treasured forever. Please join us in celebrating Hiroe's life on Saturday, February 16th, 2013, between 1:30 and 4:30 pm at the Wood household: 4391 Foster Rd., Prince George, BC.
