April 24, 1929 - January 13, 2013 Shirley Checkley (McConaghy) passed away peacefully at Hospice House on January 13, 2013 at the age of 83 years. Predeceased by Husband: Les Checkley in 1984. Shirley was devastated this past year by the loss of her only sister Betty Scully in September, son-in-law Troy Morin (April), sister-in-law Mary Norton (June) and brother-in-law Gordon Checkley (March). The most beautiful Shirley came to Prince George in 1936 at the age of 7 with her widowed Mom, Jean Cox and siblings. Raised in a family where love mattered, Shirley had an open door policy - always a cup of tea - sewing machine whirling making dresses as needed. Shirley will be remembered by her sewing club, as a Brownie Leader, her Soriety, telephone operators as well as many family and friends. She is survived by daughters: Lois (Jack), Catherine, Betty-Jean and Christine; son: Bob (Kim) 13 grandchildren: Lana, Lori, Jaclyn, Sara, Dan, Shane, Andrew, Ben, Ehren, Josh, Brett, Alex and last to arrive and most loved Jacob; 12 great grandchildren; brothers: Jim McConaghy, Mel McConaghy, Bud, Bruce and Ken Cox; brother-in-law: Pat Scully. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 3:30 pm at St. Andrew's United Church, 3555 5th Avenue with Susan Scott officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Society or charity of choice. Assman's Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
